For more than 30 years designtransfer has been the point of transfer and gallery of the UdK Berlin, which both presents the different courses of the Faculty of Design, and facilitates inspiring external input.

This publication gives an insight into the history and early days of the former shop in Grolmannstrasse 16, West Berlin in 1987, and the 2003 move to a former screen printing workshop in the UdK building in Einsteinufer 43 to its current activities.

Together with archive material, protagonists give insights in for them especially memorable events. In addition to the different emphases and perspectives, it also becomes evident that some topics remain constant current issues like ecology and design, design in a social context, interculturalism, digitalisation as well as new materials and technologies.

designtransfer functions thereby continuously as a lively platform and communicative interface for presentations, experiments and a discourse between the UdK Berlin and the public. Due to its long lasting presence and the versatile programme with prevalent topics, designtransfer has become an established space of exchange about contemporary design tendencies, and is an integral part of the public visibilty of the UdK Berlin.

The publication gives on 120 pages insights into the history with personal reports, archive material, photos and a timeline.
