Communicating Knowledge through Design Research Artifacts
The DRAFTS symposium brings researchers and designers from various academic institutions together to present and discuss their perspectives on the role of artifacts in design research. Prof. Berit Greinke and Naima Gilani will guide through the event, which consists of presentations given by guest speakers and exhibiting design researchers. The guest speakers, Sarah Kettley, Professor in textile design at Edinburgh College of Art, The University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, and Daniëlle Bruggeman, Professor in fashion at ArtEZ University of the Arts, the Netherlands, are invited to share their research and thoughts on the discourse. Both keynote talks intend to open up an exchange of thoughts, leading to a constructive discussion among all presenters of the evening on the role of artifacts in design research.
The keynote talks will be followed by researchers’ presentations about their individual and collaborative research projects exhibited at designtransfer. As part of their presentations, the exhibiting researchers will share their conception and understanding of the role of artifacts in their research processes. The dialogue that emerges through the presentations may provide opportunities to suggest and comprehend various perspectives on the role of artifacts in design and practice-based research.
