Prototype: Exhibition in the Cloud is an interdisciplinary collaboration between Parsons The New School for Design and Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), which seeks to challenge and reinvent received notions of prototyping and encompass artistic imagination. On display are works by students of UdK Berlin and Parsons New York. The exhibition pieces include among others 3D prints, interactive sculptures, performance-related audio tours and photographs.
In the context of the collaboration between the two geographical locations, the cloud is used as a communication channel, tool and archival form for the exhibition. Invoking the image of cloud computing, prototype here means a state of constant transformation and becoming. Like a cloud, it is amorphous and malleable, unstable and precarious. Therefore, prototyping is a way of cultural intervention, in which memories, histories, locations and relations are engendered, tested, reiterated and distributed.
